The Good Life, Great Careers Initiative will create and strengthen apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs to build on their successes and create new opportunities for Nebraskans. The goal is to add 6,000 new registered active apprentices in Nebraska by December 31, 2030.
The Registered Apprenticeship system combines supervised on-the-job training with technical classroom instruction. The apprentice has the opportunity to earn a living while gaining skills, and pay raises are awarded throughout the program as skills increase.
Apprenticeship programs are operated by both the public and private sector. Those entities offering an apprenticeship program are called sponsors, and may be an employer, employer association, or labor union. Recently, a variety of organizations have collaborated with businesses and industries to develop Registered Apprenticeship programs through sponsoring employer-participation agreements. The sponsor of an apprenticeship program plans, administers and usually pays for the program.
Session One: Learn about apprenticeship programs – the who, what, when, where, how, and why.
Session Two: Learn more about apprenticeship programs – how to begin, programming, register apprenticeship programs, third party programs, and more.
Presented by Nebraska Department of Labor, Ericka Redd-Butler and Delta Wilson.
Ericka Redd-Butler has built a strong career in management and leadership, working with a variety of organizations including Ubiquity Global Services, where she held multiple leadership roles, and LinkedIn. Her professional experience spans team leadership, workforce support, and organizational development.
In 2024, Ericka joined the Department of Labor as an Unemployment Specialist and has since transitioned into her current role as Registered Apprenticeship Workforce Coordinator. In this position, she works in partnership with employers, educators, and organizations across Nebraska to support and expand registered apprenticeship opportunities statewide.
Delta Wilson returned to Nebraska to work at the Nebraska Department of Labor in 2024, after working in various marketing roles for both for-profit and non-profit companies. Since then, she has served as Office Specialist to General Counsel, Administrative Program Officer to the Commissioner, and most recently, Registered Apprenticeship Program Coordinator, where she works with employers, educators, and non-profit agencies to grow apprenticeship programs throughout the state.
