What is Emerging Construction Professionals Forum?
The Emerging Construction Professionals Forum is an opportunity for your employees to develop into the future leaders of Nebraska's commercial construction industry. The forum focuses on professional and leadership development. It is provided as a member service by the sponsoring associations. There is no charge to participants.
What is the function?
For the 2008-09 Session the forum's overall goal is to enhance participant's professional development through programming in the area of advancing technology and business management.
Details about the forum:
- Who is it for? Young construction professionals such as Assistant Estimators, Estimators, Assistant Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, and any other interested employee.
- What will it be about? During the year four forums will focus on leadership/professional development, one forum will feature new technology in the industry and one forum will cover some aspect of personal financial management.
- When will it happen? The forum will take the form of six short (2 hour) seminars per year to be held after work during the week. The forum topics will be reinforced with other electronic communication between sessions. The Forums are planned to allow for busy schedules and no fees will be charged.
- Where will it be held? The 2008-09 forums will be held at the Electrical Industry Center, 3rd Floor Meeting Room, 8960 L Street, Omaha, NE.

September 30: "Introduction to LEED"
- Introduction to LEED from the perspective of clients, designers and contractors.
- Overview of LEED principles.
- Examples of real-life application of LEED in construction.
October 21: "Energy Management" combined with "Overview of Mechanical &
Electrical Systems"
- Overview of the concept of energy management
- Advice for generals, electrical and mechanicals working together.
- Overview of the role of mechanical and electrical contractors.
- Real-life examples and case studies.
November 18: "Legal Considerations for Construction Professionals"
- Role of managers in liability protection (documentation).
- Understanding contract clauses.
- Environmental impacts and legal issues involved.
November 20: Industry social event at Regency Marriott in conjunction with NE Building Chapter Fall Meeting.
January 20, 2009: "Working with Clients"
- Clients/owners expectations and perceptions of contractors.
- Issues owners/clients foresee for future construction.
- Advice for contractors to work successfully with clients/owners.
February 17, 2009: "Understanding Financial Statements and The Basics of Commercial Lending"
- Understanding what the accountant is always talking about.
- How cashflow, income statements and project managers are connected.
- Overview of the role of commercial lending in construction industry.
March 24, 2009: "The Big Picture of Construction"
- Issues facing the industry as a whole.
- Challenges of leading a construction company.
- Advice for future leaders in the industry.
To Be Scheduled
- Building Information Modeling Workshop, a half-day working session.
- LEED-AP Test Prep Class, January (If there is enough interest from the group).
