An expanded state law (LB204) that will go into effect July 18, requires contractors and subcontractors doing business in Nebraska to register with the state. The expanded law also increases the registration fee from $25 to $40. Failure to register can result in a fine up to $500 for a first violation and up to $5,000 for a subsequent violation. A person who is self-employed and does not pay more than $3,000 annually to employ others in the business is exempt from the $40 fee, but must fill out an affidavit with an application. Contractors can fill out the registration application under the "labor/safety laws" section at www.nebraskaworkforce.com, but the application must be printed out and mailed in with a check for the fee. More information is available by calling, (402) 595-3095.

| Donation Update |
Thank you to Bland and Associates P.C. for a donation of $180 to the AGC Scholarship Fund. This donation was based on the number of 2007 Construction Surveys that Building Chapter members in the Omaha area completed and returned.
Other recent donations to the Scholarship Fund included $605 raised from the "Bet the Hole" at the Spring Golf Outing on May 19th. We also raised $555 to add to the Education Fund from the sale of Mulligans at the outing.
The Spring Golf Outing also benefitted the Nebraska Construction Industry PAC Fund. Twenty-five dollars from each registration fee was designated to go to the PAC Fund. When all outstanding accounts are paid, we will have increased the fund by $3,900. An additional $625 was donated by Cheever Construction and BD Construction.
Thank you to everyone for your support! |
