A new challenge to "educate" has opened to the construction and design industry with the passage of LB 889, "The Political Subdivisions Construction Alternatives Act." The "Act" defines political subdivisions as a city, village, county, school district, community college, or state college. As an industry, we need to lead the way in making sure local boards have a clear understanding of project delivery methods and LB889. During the next few months the AGC-Building Chapter, AIA-Nebraska, NE Chapter of American Council of Engineering Companies and DBIA will be working together to provide resources for you to use in working with your public clients. The group anticipates preparing educational brochures for you all to use, along with providing direct information to political subdivision board members via their annual statewide meetings and newsletters. The joint A/E/C goal is to ensure the correct information is available and enhance the collaborative nature of the alternative delivery methods to the client.

New Addition to the NE Building Chapter

Rebecca Barker has left the Chapter as of April 30th. She did a fantastic job for us over the past two years and we wish her well in her new position. She will be returning to her former employer of 24 years, which is just next door to our office.

I am happy to announce that her replacement started on April 30th. The new Executive Assistant for The Chapter is Holly Gotts. Holly was ready to come back to work after taking 10 months off to spend time with her son that was born last July. She and her husband moved to Lincoln about 18 months ago and recently bought a new home. Her husband is a grain merchandiser at ADM.

Wage and Benefit Survey

Earlier this week you should have received a mailing from our office that included a survey and return envelope from PAS, Inc. The survey is professionally designed and tabulated by a third party to provide reliable and valid data for you to use in your personnel planning. This is a win/win situation for all of us. Completion of the survey by all of our members enables The Chapter to receive a free copy of the results for our state.

I encourage all of you to take part in the survey. I will provide a copy of the Nebraska Survey Results back to only those companies that took part in the survey.

Please make sure the survey is completed and returned by May 15th in the envelope provided. The survey was mailed to the key contact person for your company. If you are the HR person, follow-up with the key contact person to make sure your survey is returned.

Emerging Construction Professional Forum

The ECPF, designed for the newer professional in your firm, has just finished a season of monthly forums that ran from September to March. During June we plan to bring the Steering Committee together to plan the programming for the next September to March season.

If you or anyone in your company would like to be involved in the planning process please contact me as soon as possible.

The Emerging Construction Professional Forum is a joint venture between the Building Chapter, MCA of Omaha and NECA. It is designed to provide networking and educational programming on a monthly basis after work in Omaha.
