AGC Student Chapter Spring Seminar

AGC Student Chapter Spring Seminar was held on Friday the 13th of March in Lincoln at Lazlo’s.  Fifty-five students and advisors from the five chapters, along with the members of the Education Committee started the afternoon with lunch followed by the seminar on “Sustainable Building Practices: Now and In the Future”.

Adam Kucera and Chris Kriegler from Kiewit Building Group, along with Andrew Thompson, M.E.Group presented a very informative seminar.  A brief overview of LEED principles; sustainability from the perspective of owners, designers and contractors; and how does all of this apply to the actual construction process was covered.  The guys also shared their perspective on how “sustainability” fits into a future career in construction. A big thank you to Adam, Chris and Andrew for presenting this program!  Also, thank you to Kiewit Building Group and M.E. Group for allowing the guys “out of office” on Friday afternoon.

The Education Committee met during the Spring Seminar to decide on the 2009 Fall Fund Raising Event.  (Be ready for something new and different!)  Also, the group interviewed the Student Chapter Leadership teams regarding funding of their identified projects and determined the scholarship awards for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Upcoming Events

Tuesday, March 24th is the last Emerging Construction Professional Forum until fall. The forum is designed for employees that have been in the construction industry a dozen years or less.  However, everyone is welcome to attend.  If the topic is of interest, you are welcome to attend.   The topic on the 24th will be “The Big Picture of Construction: Insights into the Future of Commercial Construction”.

A panel of company leaders from AGC, MCA and NECA member firms will share their thoughts and ideas.  Wes Oestreich, Cheever Construction and Chip Vrana, Vrana & Son Construction will represent the AGC on the panel.  Jack Wilhelmi, The Waldinger Corporation, Ron Brasel, Control Service, Inc and Jack Hiller, Hiller Electric, Inc will represent MCA and NECA.  This should be a great round table discussion.  Click here for details and to RSVP

Thursday, April 2nd is the joint Central and Northeast Regional Member Meeting.  This meeting will be held at Chances R Restaurant in York at 4:00pm and finish with a supper before everyone heads home.  Since the speaker was only available to do one presentation I picked the spot in the middle between Wayne and North Platte.  All members are invited to attend if this is a topic of interest to you.  There is a minimal fee to cover the cost of supper.  Click here for the details and to RSVP
