On the Advocacy Front...

The Legislative Committee

The Legislative Committee will be meeting via conference call on Monday, Feb. 9th to discuss and determine the direction of our efforts on bills introduced this session. Please, take a look at the “bills of interest”, with brief descriptions, in the Member’s Only section of the website.  Call or email Jean if you have any questions or comments that need to be presented during the conference call.

Legislative Seminar and Luncheon

Please put Tuesday, March 3rd on your calendar and plan to attend our Legislative event of the season.  The event will start at 10:15 in Room 1126 at the Capitol.  Sen. Chris Langemeier and Sen. Fulton will be the featured speakers, along with a brief “bill” update.  We will move to the Cornhusker Marriott for the luncheon portion of the program and all the Senators will be invited to attend.  The cost of the event will be $50.00 per person.  This amount helps to cover the cost of the Senators in attendance.  The official invitation and registration information will be out in the next week or so.  This event is being jointly hosted by AGC-Building Chapter, AIA-NE and ACEC-NE.

AGC of America is Calling EVERYONE to Action!

The Senate version of the Stimulus Package is being voted on tonight.  Hopefully, all of you have voiced your opinions with the Nebraska Representatives and Senators.

This week, supporters of the (so-called) Employee Free Choice Act are expected to introduce this legislation and are making a last call for original co-sponsors of the bill. Please reach out to your Members of Congress to urge them not to co-sponsor or support the bill.  AGC opposes the Employee Free Choice Act. The existing union selection process provides better protection of employee free choice and labor relations stability. Please use AGC's Legislative Action Center to contact your congressional delegation today and urge them not to co-sponsor or support the (So-Called) Employee Free Choice Act. It only takes a minute to send a letter.

Nebraska Design and Construction Industry Council

The Nebraska Design and Construction Industry Council (the joint committee between the Building Chapter, AIA-NE and ACEC-NE) has met recently to discuss the possibility of agreed upon on language changes to the A201 (2007) General Conditions document.  After the first meeting the joint group asked the contractor members to draft a “suggested” document to begin the discussion at the next joint committee meeting on Febr. 18th.  Click here to view the first WORKING DRAFT. Click on the "Business & Ind Affairs" after you are in the "Members Only" section of our website.

Please contact Jean by phone or email with any comments or concerns you have on this topic.
