SPRING IS JUST 30-DAYS AWAY!

Steps For Obtaining Login/Password for AGC of America

All we need in this world is one more password to keep track of!  However, if you want to register for national level events online, order downloads, access “member only” sections of www.agc.org, order directly from the bookstore or want to register for courses in the AGC ONLine Institute you will need a personal login and password.  If all goes as planned, this should be fairly easy.  Here are the steps to getting a personal password to use on AGCA website:

1.  Access AGCA website by clicking the “AGC Bookstore” Tab on the Building Chapter’s Home Page (www.agcnebuilders.com).
2.  At the top, left-hand side click on “Login Here”
3.  Towards the bottom of the light gray box click on “Sign Up”.
4.  Fill in the required (*) information boxes and at the bottom of page click on “Find Your organization” (Note: if you do not do this you will not receive member pricing.)
5.  Type in your company name click on “Search”
6.  Click on the link to your company
7.  Your company name and address should appear, then click on “next” at bottom of page.
8.  You can skip all the demographic questions and go to bottom of page to click on “Create Account”.
9.  You should see a message box that says “welcome, your password will be emailed to the address you provided”.

As always, if you encounter problems call the Chapter office.   We will try our best to lessen the frustration!

PLEASE, PLEASE REMEMBER, when ordering items from AGCA Bookstore to either go to the E-Store via the Building Chapter website, OR call the Chapter office and place your order.  Linda will gladly order the items, have them sent directly to your office and send an invoice.  (If you order via the website you will need to have a password and a credit card number ready.)

Much Has Been Written About E-Verify Lately

It is mentioned in several Legislative Bills this session.  You probably read in today’s paper that at the Committee hearing yesterday a compromise was made regarding the immediate use of E-Verify by private businesses.  In short, there will be a two-year “education” period for Nebraskans on the use of E-Verify at which time the Department of Labor will report back to the Legislature.  For those of you that are not familiar with E-Verify, click here for a reprint of an article provided recently by Woods & Atkin LLP.

Building Chapter By-Law Update

For the past six months the Board of Directors has been devoting meeting time to updating and revising the By-Laws of the Chapter.  A draft copy of the proposed revision is posted in the Member’s Only section of the Chapter website www.agcnebuilder.com.  Please review and feel free to provide your thoughts.  The formal ratification process will most likely take place in May.

AGC Of America Follow-Up

Two items of interest from the massive amounts of emails received this week:

The Stimulus: What it Means to the Construction Industry

Click on this link for AGCA’s latest assessment of what can be expected from the recently enacted Stimulus Bill.  If you click on the topic items more information will come up, including the estimate of dollars to come into each state.  This link will be worth exploring.

Members’ Effort to Discourage “Card Check” is Working; Please Continue to Act

Supporters of the (so-called) Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) remain short of their goal of original cosponsors thanks to AGC members voicing their concerns.   AGC opposes the Employee Free Choice Act and urges AGC members to discourage cosponsorship.

EFCA would take away a worker’s right to a federally supervised private ballot election when deciding whether or not to select union representation. It also imposes unrealistically short deadlines for labor-management negotiations over a first contract before mandating third-party mediation and binding arbitration.

AGC supports the status quo, which allows both card-check recognition and secret-ballot elections to establish union representation and remains the most fair and reliable way to determine the desire of employees to be represented by a union.

Please reach out to your Members of Congress to urge them not to co-sponsor or support the bill. Make your voice heard on this issue by using AGC’s Legislative Action Center. Contact your congressional delegation today and urge them not to co-sponsor or support the (so-called) Employee Free Choice Act
