Fall Conference Wrap Up

Thank you to everyone who supported the Fall Conference this year. Special thanks and recognition goes out to the Chapter’s Diamond and Platinum Level Sponsors for the support of food and beverage at the two-day event. Gene Lilly Surety Bonds, Inc. and Woods & Aitken LLP hosted the social event at the end of day on Thursday. On Friday Union Bank and Trust Company sponsored the continental breakfast and all the refreshment breaks during the seminar; SilverStone Group hosted the luncheon; and Lutz and Company CPA, along with The Harry A Koch Company hosted the drink tickets for the evening event.

If you did not give your business card to the presenters and now realize that you would like to have a copy of the PowerPoints sent to you, email Jean. She will forward your request on to the presenters.

The Fall Education Fundraising Effort Has Been Very Successful Again This Year!

The Education Fund supports the five AGC Student Chapters that we sponsor in the state. The proceeds from the Fall Fundraising campaign and Live Auction on November 21st reached $16,000 and fund donations are still coming in the mail. The Scholarship Fund, which provides tuition scholarships for AGC Student Chapter Members, is about $1300 short of reaching the goal of $5,000.  If you have not donated to either fund this season and wish to do so contact Jean at The Chapter office.

The North Central Associated Schools of Construction-Region IV...

met at the Lied Lodge in Nebraska City on October 22-25 for its Annual Conference. The Associated General Contractors (AGC) partnered with the ASC financially to ensure a successful outcome of events. Financial support was received from AGC Chapters in Nebraska, Iowa, and Kansas. Their assistance in sponsoring the student competition is very much appreciated. The following Nebraska teams placed during the competition:

  • Design-Build Team from UNL @ Omaha - 2nd Place
  • Heavy Civil Team from UNL - 2nd Place
  • Residential Team from UNK - 3rd Place

Congratulations to our Nebraska Teams!

Omaha City Council Candidate Update

Members in Omaha will want to note that Jean Stothert has announced her candidacy for Omaha City Council. You will remember that the Building Chapter supported Jean when she ran for Legislative District #12 against Steve Lathrop in 2006. Jean is hoping that our Omaha members will support her campaign once again. To learn more about Jean go to her website www.jeanstothert.com

Happenings on The National Scene

The E-Verify Federal Contractor rule were published, November 14, 2008 and take effect January 15, 2009. Click here to read the details.

First National Effluent Limit for Construction Runoff Proposed by EPA
A proposed rule released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Nov. 19 would establish the first national effluent (discharge) limit for stormwater runoff from construction sites.  Contractors would have to meet EPA’s technology-based “floor” on most all sites by installing and maintaining a range of erosion and sediment controls that “are generally recognized and accepted as effective” best management practices (BMPs).  Construction sites disturbing 10 or more acres of land at a time would also need to install sediment basins to treat their stormwater discharges. To read more details click here.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES!
