Welcome New Member

Ray Martin Company (www.raymartinco.com) has joined the Building Chapter in the past few weeks as an Associate-Specialty Contractor.  Please welcome the management and staff when you see them.

Nebraska Design & Construction Industry Council

The joint council between the Building Chapter, AIA-NE and ACEC-NE met on October 14th to discuss the following topics in a roundtable format:

*Selected bidding practices that are currently happening, but are contrary to the AGC-AIA agreed upon competitive bidding procedures.
*To determine if the competitive bidding procedure manual need an update.
*To discuss the impact of the joint committees impact in educating the clients about project delivery methods.
*To assess our educational efforts for educating clients on the difference project delivery methods.

AECE had one member present, six AIA-NE members participated and the AGC was represented by Wes Oestreich, Don Wrieth, Mike Kalb, Bob Carlson and Steve Hiemer.  Jim King and Jake Buss, Gene Lilly Surety Bonds, attended to provide an update and discussion on bonding issues as related to current bid climate/activities and project delivery methods.

After the roundtable discussion, the group decided the following:
*To determine ways to educate the client on project delivery methods.
*The current AIA-AGC Bidding Procedure Manual is basically still the agreed upon standard, but the joint committee should review and align it to changes in current contract documents.
*Develop and provide some type of educational program targeted at governmental agencies such as DAS and DED.
